DanceDance and What do you think...?

Tue Mar 14, 2006, 4:01 PM

Hooray, the quarter is almost over! :D :D I have a project final presentation in about half an hour, and then there's finals next week, but overall I'm in a pretty good mood work-wise. =) Last week was pretty hectic... 2 projects and having to conduct like 12 hours of interviews over 4 days... Apologies for not being more active here and responding to all the comments! O__O!

Speaking of comments, I'm really overwhelmed by the positive feedback I've gotten with the last two tutorials! ^_^ It makes me super-happy to hear people find them useful, and I wish everyone the best of luck on all their artistic endeavors. I remember when I was just starting out and tutorials were like Candy to me... I'd eat them up! I even remember my first Really Important Photoshop Tutorial--by Charles Park, oh... like, six years ago. =) He taught me the use of the multiply layer, and where would I be without that? ^^ Other significant tutorials in my earliest art days were how to make a photo-tear (not particularly useful, and I don't even have any examples of that in my gallery now, but... man! It was cool!) and how to make photos fade to white at the borders. ^^

But really, I like teaching a lot. It's a lot of fun! I did tutoring in high school, I taught beginning computer science for two years as a TA in college (now I teach these people how to teach). =P It's one of the most rewarding things I've done, so expect to see new tutorials out every once in a while. I do have one in the planning right now... ^_~ ^_~

Okay, here's my question for this entry, since it's for a friend's research project:

Do you know computer science and/or any programming? If so, why did you learn it, and do you think it's useful? If not, do you think it's important to learn at some point?

I'm curious to see what you guys have to say. =)

M o o d - Taking care of loose ends. I have like, a million unfinished things sitting on my harddrive asking to be finished... Of course, I'll get around to finishing one or two of them if I'm lucky... >D >D First up is finishing up the coloring on "Little Shy Ones." I should also post a picture of the completed "lightning girl." The things I'm itching to begin are another flash project starring Rune, and the FFVII eyes project... ^^

Oh. Wow. I was born a computer geek because my father is one. I learned it because, well, the father thing. I had to in order to not be disowned. XD And when my father wanted me to help him fix people's computers. Then I got commissioned to create websites so I learned HTML, PHP, and CSS coding. I think it's extremely useful because it is my income and I make profit from it. Not to mention technology is the future! Everyone should have some basic knowledge of how a computer works and how to use one.

Uhh...

Well, I think basic computer science/programming may be necessary and useful :D I myself know HTML and all that jazz (EXCEPT for php. I've never gotten the hang of it T_T), and I'm learning more about javascripts, because I'm not too sure on that either XD;

All self-taught, btw >.>;

i took computer a.p
failed that
it was too boring [ it was more of a math thing, also the computers are distracting lol we just play games while the teacher is lecturing ^^ , though i do find it fun to program stuff on my graphic calculator ]

lol~ when I took computer AP, yeah, our class just played networked Quake (or at least all the guys did. =) My friends and I just surfed the web. I love having a computer in the classroom. >D

Umm... I've taken grade 10 and 11 computer science... because I find it interesting... and well, my dad's a programmer too... I could have inherited the interest from him ^^;
It was also really fun to go to a district programming challenge that happened recently around my area, but to be truthful... I think programmers have to be more enthusiastic. The satisfaction of completing a problem that's been presented to you is just... ack, can't explain it. But yeah... my partner and I seemed to be the only ones that had to hold in screams of joy when the judges gave us the completion mark for one of the problems. It was either that, or I was too engrossed in the programming to pay attention to the other groups.
O_o I don't think that was very relevant to the question... but it's so much fun talking about it, but there are so few people in my school that pay attention to programmers that... uhh... it's just so much better telling people that are interested? ^^; yeah...
Uhh... I've also taught myself some of the basics of HTML, just enough to get decent looking webpages... and some smatterings of CSS...
Oh, would computer engineering classes count too? Because I took the grade 10 and 11 courses for that too... the engineering class provided helpful background information for the computer programming class...
I would say that... everyone should learn at least the basic stuff about computers...? I'm not too sure how programming will help in the everyday use of the computer... unless it crashes every 5 minutes or something...
Hope that was somewhat helpful ^^; But maybe it's just so disorganized that you can't make anything out XD

Let's see... in computer engineering they taught how to convert decimal numbers to binary and hex, the 6 gates and how to build some circuits with the gate chips... and it was more in depth with the components of the computer. Basically it concentrated more on the hardware aspect of computers. There was a little programming though...
College... @_@ I have no clue where I'm going to go after high school...

what do you learn in the computer engineering course? I don't think we had that offered in my school when I took it. ^^ Yeah, I agree it's mostly about the problem solving, which can be very fun, but also extremely frustrating sometimes. >D

Hahaha... just wait till you get to college... There will be more than enough people to talk to about computer science ^^

HTML is awesome. =) Very useful indeed! Making webpages is superbly fun! What grade are you in in school?
